Telangana’s Adilabad dokra and Warangal Dhurries get Geographical Indication tag
Adilabad Dokra, an ancient bell metal craft popular in the tribal regions of Adilabad district in Telangana, and Warangal Durries, which has brought much acclaim to the weaver community of Warangal region, have been issued the Geographical Indication (GI) Registration Certificate by the GI Registry, Chennai.
The Dokra craftsmen belong to the Woj community, called Wojaris and also called as Otaris in Telangana.
The uniqueness of Adilabad Dokra is that no two pieces are alike in shape as well as in size and hence replica of the antique is nearly not possible, which is the add-on speciality.
Cotton is abundantly produced in Warangal for many decades and has a major pie in the cotton production in Telangana.
A geographical indication (GI) is a name or sign used on products which corresponds to a specific geographical location or origin (e.g. a town, region, or country). The use of a geographical indication may act as a certification that the product possesses certain qualities, is made according to traditional methods, or enjoys a certain reputation, due to its geographical origin.
Union Home Minister lays foundation for several development projects in Diu
Union Territory was selected for the Smart Cities Project during the final phase of bidding and is today on the verge of realising this dream. A total of Rs. 1,400 crores would be spent under this project, of which Rs 701 crores would be the contribution of Government.
India MoU with South Korea for Road Information System
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkari has said that India is exploring an agreement with South Korea for introduction of Highways Information System in the country.
This would be developed on lines of the system run by the Express Highways Information Corporation of South Korea, with integrated monitoring of a highway at a centralized control room.

Diu Smart City has become the first city in India, that runs on 100% renewable energy during daytime setting a new benchmark for other cities to become clean and green. Diu had been importing 73% of its power from Gujarat until last year.
To improve traffic management in Bengaluru Smart City, a prototype of an intelligent traffic management solution is currently being tested in collaboration with the Electronics City Township Authority (ELCITA).

6th Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) in Tehran
The 6th Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) has kicked off in Tehran with participation of 35 high-ranking military delegations from across the world.
The forum aims at increasing maritime cooperation among the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region.
The two-day event is gathering 35 high-ranking military delegations from across the world, including India, Turkey, and Australia.
Iran will take over the presidency of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) for a two-year term.
The previous rounds of the biennial event were held in India, the UAE, South Africa, Australia and Bangladesh.
The IONS as voluntary initiative aims to increase maritime cooperation among navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region.

India Highest Recipient Of Remittances at $69 billion In 2017: World Bank
India retained the top position as recipient of remittances with its diaspora sending about USD 69 billion back home last year, the report of World Bank .
Remittances to India picked up sharply by 9.9 per cent, reversing the previous year’s dip, but were still short of USD 70.4 billion received in 2014.
The World Bank said remittance inflows improved in all regions and the top remittance recipients were India with $69 billion, followed by China ($64 billion), the Philippines ($33 billion), Mexico ($31 billion), Nigeria ($22 billion), and Egypt ($20 billion).

Egyptian Photographer Mahmoud Abu Zeid Wins 2018 UNESCO Press Freedom Prize
Jailed Egyptian photographer Mahmoud Abu Zeid, popularly known as Shawkan won the 2018 Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO).
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry strongly warned UNESCO against recognising Abu Zeid, claiming that he faced terror-related charges.
He has been jailed since August 2013, when he was arrested in Cairo in while covering a demonstration at Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square.

President of India receives the first copy of book “Adi Shankaracharya: Hinduism’s greatest thinker”
The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, received the first copy of the book “Adi Shankaracharya: Hinduism’s Greatest Thinker”, from the author Shri Pavan Varma, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Adi Shankaracharya, who was born over 1,200 years ago in Kerala, is still apparent in contemporary India and in fact in all parts of our country. He remains among the most influential personalities in our long and rich history.
Sunderban Reserve Forest to obtain Ramsar site status
The Sunderban Reserve Forest, spread of 4,260 sq. km. with over 2,000 sq. km. of mangrove forests and creeks, is likely to be declared a Ramsar Site soon.
West Bengal government gave its approval to the State Forest Department to apply for recognition under the Ramsar Convention.
